Noting that this is a Doug Sudduth Photography website, none of the photos are taken by me, since I'm in the quartet (duh).
I began harmonizing with my brother, Bobby, in the early '50's, when he brought home some songs he had been singing in a quartet as a student at Duke University. My first quartet was in high school. I grew up on choral singing in church choirs, in college at Huntingdon College, the Huntingdon Chorale, directed by Richard Rivers, a former member of the famous Robert Shaw Chorale, then in the Duke University Glee Club, including an appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1957. After several years' hiatus I resumed choral singing with Pro Musica in New Bern, NC, out of which developed the Windjammers barbershop quartet, an excellent barbershop singing experience. Upon moving to Las Vegas, NV, I joined my first barbershop chorus, The Las Vegas Gambleaires, which included some pick-up quartet opportunities. I witnessed and experienced serious barbershop chorus and quartet competition. Also in Las Vegas, I sang with the Southern Nevada Musical Arts Chorus based at UNLV. Upon moving back east I joined the Cape Fear Chordsmen barbershop chorus, Wilmington,NC, finally, moving to Mitchell County,NC forming with George, Bryan and Stan, the Local Fourcast barbershop quartet, singing together for 8 years. Having lost our tenor, several years passed until George and I fortunately recruited Will and Danny for the current Local Fourcast quartet. The title came from my wife, Billie Ruth, checking the Weather Channel's Local Forecast during winter to be sure our weekly rehearsal could happen.
