Job 38:4
I visited Linville Caverns in McDowell County, N.C. for the first time, with my three grandchildren and their parents. The guide spoke of the thousands, sometimes, millions of years it took Nature to make these formations. I felt a sense
of time that exceeded anything I could imagine or relate to.
It reminded me of the dialogue between Job and God, recorded in the Book of Job. As Job asks, "Why is this happening to me?", one of God's answers is : "Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell me, if you have understanding."

How Many Roads?
The commonplace can set the imagination in motion.
This is a self service sign near the gas pumps at P&R grocery in Ledger, Mitchell County, N.C. Picture me on a ladder, shooting this photo, as people pump gas. The cracked paint lines, overlaid by the stark white word Self, suggested a road map of personal journeys or roads less traveled by.
Two weeks earlier, I heard a poem, read by a high school senior, including the sentence: " I have to live with myself and so, I want to be fit for myself to know." I knew the same poem from my high school days. Power of suggestion?
This photo was exhibited in the Artists' Exhibit and Competion at Mayland Community College, Spruce Pine, N.C. also featured in a news release, published in several area newspapers.
